  • 1周終了:LEC、VER、HAM、ANT、RUS、LIN、COL、NOR、PIA、HUL。

Race Log — Lap by Lap

Before the Start

The air temperature is 23.4°C, with the track at 47.3°C. Most of the leading drivers start on Softs. Verstappen is the only driver in the top 10 to choose Mediums, aiming to extend his opening stint and recover ground by stopping later.

Starting grid: HAM, RUS, LEC, ANT, VER, NOR.

Following penalties, Lawson starts from the pit lane and Bottas from the back of the grid. Ryo Hirakawa is making his Grand Prix debut.

Lap 1

Hamilton initially takes the lead, but at Turn 4 Leclerc pushes him wide, forcing him off track and unsettling his car. Leclerc takes the lead, and Verstappen capitalizes on Hamilton’s loss of momentum to overtake him for second.

Russell makes a poor start, possibly because his boost does not activate, and collides with Hadjar, losing several positions.

Order at the end of Lap 1: LEC, VER, HAM, ANT, RUS, LIN, COL, NOR, PIA, HUL.

Laps 2–4

The stewards begin investigating the incident between Leclerc and Hamilton. The contact between Russell and Hadjar is also noted.

Stroll reports a lack of power almost immediately and begins lifting and coasting. Alonso pits first in an attempt to manage a cooling issue.

Alonso is subsequently forced to retire because the cooling problem cannot be controlled. Hirakawa moves up from 18th to 17th.

Around Laps 6–7 — First Safety Car

Stroll also stops on track. Yellow flags are followed by a VSC and then the first full Safety Car of the race.

Aston Martin explains that the pressure levels in the power-unit system were abnormal. The team’s double retirement ends its race early.

Around Lap 10 — Restart

The Safety Car comes in and racing resumes.

Leclerc leads Verstappen by 1.9 seconds. Hamilton is also 1.9 seconds behind Verstappen, while Antonelli follows Hamilton by just 0.6 seconds.

Lap 11

Piastri catches and overtakes Lindblad to move into seventh, putting both McLarens in sixth and seventh. Lawson, who started from the pit lane, makes an early pit stop.

Laps 12–13 — Penalties Announced

Leclerc receives a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage during the Turn 4 incident with Hamilton.

Russell receives a 10-second penalty for his opening-lap contact with Hadjar.

Hamilton voices his frustration over the radio: Leclerc has clean air and does not need to manage temperatures, so Hamilton wants the position returned to him quickly.

The commentators are equally critical, suggesting that the stewards’ decision has effectively handed Leclerc the advantage of leading the race.

Laps 13–17

The leading group settles into a relatively stable order.

Norris stays within one second of Russell, who is carrying a 10-second penalty. McLaren instructs Norris to maintain pressure over the next two laps.

Lap 18

Gasly pits and switches to Mediums.

Lap 20

Bearman overtakes Bottas to move into 11th. Albon pits to switch to Softs.

Laps 21–24 — Brake and Temperature Management

Piastri reports that his front brakes are overheating. He is instructed to lift and coast for approximately 80 meters at Turns 1, 4, and 12.

Antonelli also manages his brakes at Turns 12 and 10. As temperatures continue to rise, cooling becomes a challenge for the entire field.

Around Laps 25–27 — The Main Pit-Stop Battle

Leclerc and Verstappen pit almost simultaneously. Verstappen switches from Mediums to Softs, while Hamilton follows with a stop of 2.5 seconds.

After this phase, Antonelli remains the leader because he has yet to stop. Russell and Norris are also ahead of Verstappen, followed by Leclerc and Hamilton.

Commentary praises Leclerc’s track position, describing it as almost untouchable. Verstappen immediately begins setting purple sector times on his new Softs.

Around Laps 28–29

Russell pits to serve his 10-second penalty and rejoins in eighth, ahead of Piastri.

Norris’s rear tires are visibly deteriorating, with commentary describing their condition as increasingly poor. A pit stop is expected soon.

Around Laps 30–32

Norris pits and rejoins behind Hamilton but ahead of Russell.

Bearman also pits, overshooting the pit-entry point by approximately one meter. His front wing appears to escape damage.

Antonelli remains the only driver among the leading contenders to stay out, continuing to lead as his Soft stint reaches 34 laps.

Around Lap 33 — Antonelli’s Pit Stop

Antonelli finally pits and rejoins fourth, behind the Ferrari pair and Hamilton. All cars have now completed their planned pit stops.

Around Lap 34 — Second Safety Car and Red Flag

Bottas stops with what appears to be a mechanical problem involving the car’s neutral system. Yellow flags are shown, followed by the second Safety Car.

I was deeply impressed by Bottas’s reaction in such an extreme emergency. His left-front suspension rod suddenly snapped, leaving the car completely uncontrollable. I believe he may have deliberately hit the barriers rear-first to minimize the damage, and perhaps he had sensed something was wrong even before the failure occurred. Whatever the circumstances, he demonstrated remarkable composure in a life-threatening situation—something we can all admire and learn from.

I’m genuinely relieved that Bottas escaped unharmed. However, when mechanical failures of this severity occur, drivers cannot compete with confidence, and spectators cannot watch the race without concern for their safety either. I sincerely hope Cadillac, along with every other team and the FIA, will take this incident as an opportunity to re-examine and reinforce their safety standards with the utmost rigor.

The car cannot be removed promptly, so the race is red-flagged. The suspension lasts 39 minutes.

Order at the red flag: VER, LEC, HAM, ANT, NOR, RUS, LIN, PIA, COL, HUL.

Standing Restart — All Cars on Softs

Verstappen makes a strong getaway and retains the lead.

Hamilton overtakes Leclerc to move into second, reversing the order between the two Ferraris’ leading rivals. Antonelli also passes Leclerc to take third.

Hamilton and Verstappen make contact at Turn 1. The incident is recorded, but neither driver receives a penalty. Hamilton reports a damaged mirror and impaired visibility.

A possible concern about Verstappen’s position on the grid is also noted, but no further action is taken.

Immediately After the Restart

Hulkenberg hits Bearman, who retires from the race while running just one place short of the points. Hulkenberg’s front wing appears undamaged, but he receives a 10-second penalty for the collision.

Leclerc’s lock-up during the earlier contact leaves him with a flat spot, causing severe vibration. His left-front tire eventually deteriorates to the point that the cords become visible.

Commentary warns that Leclerc is taking a serious risk of damaging the suspension by continuing on the tire.

A separate Turn 1 incident in which Pérez and Hulkenberg run each other wide is reviewed without further action.

Around Laps 45–47 — Third Safety Car

Lindblad and Piastri collide while battling, with their wheels appearing to interlock after a late-braking incident. The third Safety Car is deployed.

Lindblad may be unable to continue, while Piastri is referred to the stewards for investigation after the race.

Despite concerns about the condition of his tires, Leclerc commits to staying out and defending fourth place.

Safety Car Restart — Final Ten Laps

Verstappen pulls away at the restart.

The order is VER, HAM, ANT, LEC, NOR, RUS, and PIA. Gasly and Colapinto exchange positions, while Lawson moves into 10th.

Hamilton closes to within 0.5–0.6 seconds of Verstappen but cannot find a way past. Commentary praises the determination of the 41-year-old, describing his persistence as remarkable.

An incident involving Gasly and Lawson is under investigation.

Hirakawa overtakes Sainz to move from 14th to 13th, then passes Albon to consolidate 13th. He sets his personal best lap time in the final three laps, completing an impressive debut.

Final Two Laps — The Fight for Fourth

Leclerc and Norris run nose-to-tail in a tense battle for fourth.

Despite the severe degradation of his tires, Leclerc successfully defends against every attack and holds on to the position through the finish.

Finish

Verstappen wins the race, with Hamilton second and Antonelli third.

Antonelli’s podium finish secures the World Championship at 20 years and 68 days old, making him the youngest World Champion in history.

He becomes Italy’s first World Champion since Alberto Ascari, 73 years earlier. The celebrations include his father shouting “Champion of the World,” in a scene reminiscent of Monza.

Technical Notes and Commentary — efandone-style Explainers

Why Mexico Is So Demanding

Mexico City sits at an altitude of approximately 2,277 meters, where the air is significantly thinner than at sea level. The reduced air density affects both aerodynamic performance and cooling. The commentators explain that the cars face a combination of demands comparable to running at sea level in temperatures of around 37–38°C.

As a result, teams open up numerous cooling louvers, and following another car closely becomes particularly challenging.

Tire Strategy: Mediums vs. Softs

The Medium tire proves particularly difficult to manage in this race. Teams that minimize their Medium stint and switch to Softs early, as Leclerc’s strategy aims to do, can gain an advantage over those that remain on Mediums for longer.

Why Overtaking Is Difficult on the Straights

All cars reach very similar trap speeds of approximately 341–344 km/h, making it difficult to gain a decisive speed advantage on the straights. The DRS zone is limited to the section before Turn 17, so drivers need to position themselves carefully and make the most of their opportunities.
