春開催の日本GPとなった鈴鹿は、桜満開。
先週に暖かい日が何日か続いて満開になった桜を、今秋の雨がキープしてくれたようだ。決勝レースではなんとか雨は降らなかった。
余談中の余談だが、フジテレビが揺れるお台場でのパブリックビューイング(F1 TOKYO FAN FESTIVAL 2025)では、レーススタートのちょうど14時ころに大粒の雨。会場内は鈴鹿同様に傘を差すことが禁止されているので、来年から同様のイベントがあるならレインコート必携だ。
ツノダがなんと4年連続ワールドチャンピオンであるフェルスタッペンのチームメイトとして、レッドブルへ移籍。ホンダとレッドブルのタッグが今年で最後ということもあり、LVやドメニカリのビッグビジネスもあり？、否が応でも日本人のF1ファンとして興奮が隠せないレースとなった。

１．ここ１０年で稀にみるスムーズなスタート。PPのフェルスタッペン、フロントローのマクラーレン２台を始め、本当に混乱無くしてほうき星が如く美しい隊列を作りながら様々な色のマシンが流れていった。 スタートリプレイでは、ノリス0.24秒とフェルスタッペン0.29秒のリアクションタイムの差が比較された。 ガスリーとアロンソがスタート直後から正にホイールトゥホイールの激しいバトル。しかし実にクリーンなバトルだった。前はアロンソが譲らない。 上位ではハミルトンのみハードタイヤスタートであったが、これが吉と出るか。
６．ハミルトンがハジャーをかわして7位。
１６．13位のツノダはスタート直後からガスリーの1秒以内に着けているが、なかなかオーバーテイクが難しい。
２０．ラッセルがピットへ動く。ルクレールへのアンダーカット狙い。
２１．ピアストリがピット。相変わらずマクラーレンのピットは速い。
２２．フェルスタッペンとノリスが同時ピットストップ。ここが2025年日本GP最大の見せ場であった。ピット作業の速さに自信のあるマクラーレンが強引にノリスをクイックリリース。明らかにピット終了後にレーンで加速を始めているフェルスタッペンの斜め後方からノリスが急加速。ピットレーン出口内側にコースオフしながらフェルスタッペンの前を窺ったノリス。接触こそ無かったものの、ノリスにペナルティは無いのか？ フェルスタッペン無線：He drove himself into the grass. → チーム返答：We know the game, as you are.
２４．ピットストップを実施していないアントネッリがレースリーダーに。18歳と224日の史上最年少でF1隊列をリードする走行とのこと。 フェルスタッペンが保持していた18歳と227日の記録を3日上回ったことになる。
２４．ツノダがピット。17位で復帰。がんばれー。
３１．ハジャーがサインツをホームストレートエンドでかわして9位。サインツが1コーナー入口でややトリッキーなブロックをしたが、オーバーテイクの少ない今年の鈴鹿でキレイなオーバーテイクを見せた。 ハードスタートのハミルトンがここでピット。静止2.2秒は速いぞ。
３７．サインツがローソンをかわして16位。ウィリアムズとサインツのタッグはなかなかに強力だ。 トップのフェルスタッペンとノリスの差が1.2秒までに縮まる。
３９．12位ツノダがアロンソに1.3秒と迫るものの、なかなかかわせない。DRS圏内と大きなタービュランスとの闘いが難しい様子。
４４．ピアストリのペースが明らかにノリスより速く、ホームストレートでDRSを使用してバトルを仕掛ける。
４９．ギャップは0.2秒にして2位ノリスがピアストリの前を守り続ける。
５１．アントネッリが上位勢より1秒近く速い1分30秒965のファステスト。決勝での鈴鹿ラップレコード更新。しかも最年少ファステストを更新。今年は本当にルーキーが凄いなあ。
５３．ホンダ初勝利から60年。神様にも予想できなかったかのような美しいポールトゥウィンでフェルスタッペンが4年連続鈴鹿、歓喜の優勝。 約1秒ほどのギャップでマクラーレン2台もフィニッシュ。

1. One of the smoothest starts in the past decade. From pole-sitter Verstappen to the two McLarens on the front row, the entire grid flowed forward in a beautifully synchronized formation, like a streaking comet—each car a different hue, but all moving in harmony.
In the start replay, reaction times were compared: Norris at 0.24 seconds, Verstappen at 0.29.
Right from the get-go, Gasly and Alonso went wheel-to-wheel in a fierce battle, but it remained impeccably clean—Alonso refused to yield.
Of the front runners, only Hamilton started on hard tires. Would that gamble pay off?
6. Hamilton overtook Hadjar for P7.
16. Tsunoda, running P13, had been within 1 second of Gasly since the start, but overtaking remained a challenge.
20. Russell pitted, aiming for an undercut on Leclerc.
21. Piastri boxed as well—once again, McLaren’s pit stop was lightning-quick.
22. Verstappen and Norris pitted simultaneously—this was the pivotal moment of the 2025 Japanese GP.
Confident in their pit stop speed, McLaren executed an aggressive quick release for Norris.
As Verstappen was already accelerating in the pit lane, Norris launched from just behind him at an angle, even going slightly off track toward the pit lane exit’s inner edge in an attempt to get ahead.
There was no contact, but the move was bold—would Norris escape penalty?
Verstappen on the radio: “He drove himself into the grass.”
Team replied: “We know the game—as you are.”
24. Antonelli, who had not yet pitted, briefly became the race leader—at 18 years and 224 days, the youngest driver ever to lead an F1 race.
He beat Verstappen’s previous record (18 years and 227 days) by three days.
Tsunoda also pitted and rejoined in P17. Come on, Yuki!
31. Hadjar overtook Sainz at the end of the main straight for P9.
Sainz tried a tricky block into Turn 1, but Hadjar executed a clean pass—especially impressive at Suzuka, where overtakes are rare this year.
Hamilton, who started on hards, chose this moment to pit. A 2.2-second stop—very quick.
37. Sainz overtook Lawson for P16. The Sainz–Williams pairing looked quite solid.
Up front, the gap between Verstappen and Norris closed to just 1.2 seconds.
39. Tsunoda, running P12, was within 1.3 seconds of Alonso but couldn’t quite make the move.
Even inside DRS range, dirty air and turbulence made it tough to mount a pass.
44. Piastri was clearly faster than Norris and used DRS down the main straight to challenge his teammate.
49. The gap shrank to just 0.2 seconds, but Norris continued to fend off Piastri for P2.
51. Antonelli set the fastest lap with a 1:30.965—nearly a full second quicker than the leaders—setting a new Suzuka lap record in a race.
He also became the youngest driver to set a fastest lap in F1 history. What a year for rookies!
53. 60 years since Honda’s first victory, Verstappen secured a magnificent pole-to-win at Suzuka—his fourth straight win here.
It was a result no god could have predicted: sheer perfection.
Just about one second behind, the two McLarens crossed the line in formation to complete the podium.
