1. Leclerc gets a great start. Hamilton and Pérez go side-by-side into Turn 1, with Hamilton emerging ahead. Both McLarens are also neck and neck, and Piastri gets the jump.
2. Top 10: Leclerc, Hamilton, Pérez, Piastri, Russell, Sainz, Norris, Verstappen, Alonso, Albon.
Verstappen has already climbed up to P8.
3. On the Kemmel Straight, Hamilton overtakes Leclerc to take the lead. Verstappen sets the fastest lap.
Zhou reports on the radio: “I’m losing power.” He makes it back to the pits and is able to continue.
6. Hamilton radio: “Something’s moving down by my legs.”
7. Kawai: “Most of the cars are now running within one second of each other. This is the beginning of tyre management in track temps of 42°C.”
8. Hülkenberg is the first to pit, switching to hard tyres.
11. Verstappen pits, aiming to undercut Norris. Russell pits as well.
12. Hamilton, Pérez, and Piastri pit. Piastri’s stop is an impressive 2.0 seconds.
13. Leclerc pits. Piastri rejoins ahead of Pérez, taking P6.
Up front, Sainz, Norris, and Alonso continue to extend their first stints.
14. Alonso pits. Verstappen and Piastri begin trading fastest laps.
Norris receives a radio message: “Run with 100% pace.”
15. Norris pits. It’s a balanced two-stop strategy. Tsunoda also pits now.
16. Sainz overruns into the gravel at Stavelot while staying out.
Kawai: “He lost about 2 seconds there. That’s unfortunate.”
17. Verstappen radio: “I think we should try to get them. What do you think?”
Team: “Have a go.”
18. Gasly overtakes Hülkenberg for P13.
20. Bottas passes Hülkenberg for P14. Ocon overtakes Alonso for P11.
Aston Martin seems to be lacking top-end speed.
Sainz pits now — switches to mediums. A one-stopper?
21. Russell overtakes Pérez for P4.
Top 10: Hamilton, Leclerc, Piastri, Russell, Pérez, Verstappen, Norris, Sainz, Albon, Ricciardo.
22. Pérez is struggling with pace and pits again — he was holding up Verstappen.
Replay shows Hamilton’s tyres — both front and rear are worn heavily on the inner side.
24. Pérez, now on hards, sets the fastest lap.
Norris gets too close to Verstappen and locks up under braking, producing tyre smoke.
25. Leclerc pits early for an undercut attempt on Hamilton. Stop time: 3.4 seconds.
26. Hamilton pits. Despite Leclerc’s earlier stop, Hamilton’s 2.4-second stop gets him back out just 0.5 seconds ahead.
28. Piastri sets the fastest lap. Everyone is pushing, and tyre wear is accelerating.
29. Verstappen pits for mediums. Sainz also pits again, this time for hards.
30. Norris pits.
31. Piastri pits and overshoots the stop line by about a meter. The front jackman shows amazing reflexes.
International broadcast captures both his safety and his smile.
Kawai: “Piastri owes that guy a nice meal.”
32. Russell team radio: “Just confirming you are happy to stay out?”
Russell: “Yes!”
Norris sets the fastest lap, closing in on Verstappen.
33. Top 10: Russell, Hamilton, Leclerc, Piastri, Verstappen, Norris, Pérez, Sainz, Alonso, Bottas.
35. Hamilton checks the lap time difference to race leader Russell — 5 seconds with 10 laps to go.
Verstappen receives this radio: “10 laps to go. 10 of your finest, mate. Come on.”
He’s 3.5 seconds behind Piastri.
36. Piastri overtakes Leclerc around the outside at the end of the Kemmel Straight for P3.
37. Moriwaki: “Russell maintaining this pace is impressive.” (On old tyres from a one-stop strategy, he’s just 0.3s slower than Hamilton.)
Kawai: “Who could’ve predicted a Mercedes 1–2 here?!”
38. Sainz overtakes Pérez at the end of the Kemmel Straight for P7.
Kawai: “With DRS, the top speed delta there reaches 25 km/h.”
The gap between Russell and Hamilton shrinks to 1.5 seconds.
40. Gap between Russell and Hamilton is now just 1.0 second.
Moriwaki: “Leclerc, Verstappen, and Norris — all fighting for P4 — are also suffering on their tyres.”
41. Hamilton radio: “Just make sure you give each other plenty of space.”
Kawai: “That’s code for: ‘Don’t crash if you’re going to battle.’”
42. Kawai: “Hamilton won here for the first time 11 years ago today. And for car #44 to win a 44-lap race? That’s just poetic.”
43. Piastri is closing in on Hamilton — now within 1.5 seconds.
Pérez pits to go for the fastest lap.
44. Just like Austria, Britain, and Hungary — another final-lap showdown within one second.
The checkered flag falls.
Kawai & Moriwaki: “Forget strategy — Russell’s personal decision to push through a 34-lap stint on those tyres is what made this possible.”
Result:
After the race, Russell’s car fails post-race inspection due to underweight. He is disqualified.
Hamilton is officially declared the race winner.
